Abigail Percifield

Psy.D

I specialize in working with individuals who are navigating the complexities of trauma, depression and anxiety, or the unique challenges that can surface during the peripartum period. My clients are in search of understanding, healing, and the ability to regain control over their emotions, and I draw from a diverse range of evidence-based methods to support them in their journey.

Many individuals who turn to therapy are on a quest to reclaim their sense of joy, overcome the hurdles they face, and nurture resilience. Their ultimate goal is to lead a more fulfilling life unburdened by past or present struggles.

As a therapist, my primary objective is to provide a safe and nurturing environment where you can explore your thoughts and emotions, free from judgment. I will also share my thoughts and perspectives that I think can help you discover new insights about yourself and the patterns present in your life. Together, we will collaboratively identify your goals and create a personalized, dynamic plan that paves the way for the personal growth you aspire to achieve.

I firmly believe that the path to healing begins with the establishment of a strong therapeutic relationship grounded in trust, empathy, and respect. I adapt my approach to suit your unique needs, merging evidence-based therapies with a holistic understanding of your overall well-being. My mission is to empower you to take charge of your mental health and embark on a journey of self-discovery and transformation.

Can you tell me more about your expertise and therapeutic style?

I received my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in traumatic stress studies in 2021 and have trained or worked in a variety of settings with a wide variety of people. I have received my Advanced Certificate in Complex Trauma and Dissociation from the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD), am an EMDRIA-trained Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) clinician, and have completed advanced training in clinical hypnosis. The ISSTD is the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation and is the oldest international organization dedicated to the study of complex trauma and dissociation. They provide training, resources, and support for clinicians who work in this area. An Advanced Certificate in Complex Trauma and Dissociation is awarded to those who have completed 100 hours of advanced training.

In most of my clinical work, I draw primarily from psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral models of change. Often sessions will be focused on exploring how past experiences influence your current emotions and relationship patterns alongside building concrete skills that can help you better notice and regulate your emotions. With this greater level of awareness and control, people are increasingly able to identify and implement the changes they want to experience in their lives. Since I am trained in a variety of modalities, I often will bring ideas of strategies that we can integrate into our work together as your needs change and if you’re interested in them.
